Today we completed the first harvest with our re-fitted 1968 Chisolm-Ryder harvester! The day began before dawn, with heavy fog in the vineyard. Quickly, activity ramped with the harvest team gathering, hitching trailers, tweaking the harvester, and moving equipment into final position. The harvester, which originally was a Welch's grape harvester, hummed along and did an excellent job collecting the muscadines from the vines. We met and slightly exceeded the harvesting goal for the day. We are grateful to the excellent, experienced folks who worked with us today, providing technical consultation, expertise, and coordination for a successful first outing for us.
