Summer solstice arrives this week, and we are ready for the season. The muscadine vines are growing like crazy and soaking up the recent rains, although we also started irrigating last week. The muscadine blossoms are in full bloom, so we want to be sure there is plenty of available moisture for the fruit to set. We also have a new project--a gated shade house to grow tomatoes for our dinner table. For the last 3 years our tomato production has been pitiful, largely due to hungry deer looking for an easy meal. We hope we have outsmarted the deer this time--we will keep you posted!
