About as soon as the muscadine leaves turned yellow, they started falling. The hardwoods lost their leaves this week. It seemed like the leaves in the yard must have just dumped themselves suddenly...when did it happen? The transformation from fall to winter in the forest is well underway, although we still have some oddly green grass, since we've still not had a frost. The hoot owls sound lovely and comforting at dusk and before dawn. It's a good backdrop for planning the holiday menus, while in daylight the vineyard pruning begins in earnest.
